Reading Slumps – We all haz dem.
I’m stuck in the middle of a reading slump – I can’t seem to get motivated to read anything new! I’ve re-read a couple of old favorites in an attempt to get some momentum going, but no dice. I need to start up again soon though – I’m falling behind in my Reading Challenge.
Blergh!
I’ve tried my usual methods of breaking the slump, without success. Pretty soon I’m going to start being irrationally cranky (it’s happened before). It’s like low blood sugar, but with books… or maybe Lack of Literature induced PMS.
Any suggestions? ‘Cuz I don’t think copious amounts of chocolate are going to help this one…

What about your Ever-Expanding Reading List? Surely something there can entice you! Or if not, then try Eoin Colfer’s Airman. It’s a fast and easy read, but rather insanely fun. A steampunkish adventure retelling of The Count of Monte Cristo, with a decidedly happier and more satisfying ending. Have I recommended it to you before? Perhaps I have. Have you read it before? I don’t remember. Regardless, it strikes me as a perfect book to end a reading slump.
Granted, I do understand how sometimes you need to take a break from reading. Readers like us, to whom it is as important as eating, may sometimes overgorge ourselves, and then require a fast of sorts, a stepping back and moving on to other pursuits for awhile. That way, we return to our books healthier, rejuvenated, and hungry for them. There’s little use forcing yourself to read if you feel burned out. You won’t be able to concentrate fully and give the book the attention it deserves, which isn’t fair to either of you.

You haven’t mentioned “Airman” before – sounds awesome! I’ll add it to the list (and see what library availability is)! I’ve also added “Home to the Sea” by Mercedes Lackey. But, before I look at any of those, I promised my friend that I’d read “Monstrous Regiment” by Terry Pratchett.

Let us know what you think of “Monstrous Regiment.” Pratchett is one I’ve never yet read, but he’s one of the favored authors of the ladies at The Egotist’s Club and sounds like a ton of fun.

Maybe you could go to a bookshop and just browse until you find something that you feel completely compelled to read? It could help!

That could help.
I might also do that at the library – much less dangerous to my wallet!

I was so happy to find it! Alas, my kitties look up whenever they hear the camera, so I can never catch them in this pose.
