Today’s prompt is:

“What book has been on your shelves the longest?”

My illustrated copy of Hans Christian Anderson’s Faerie Tales has been with me the longest, along with an illustrated book of faerie tales from around the world and an illustrated collection of Rudyard Kipling’s stories.

I pored over these books for hours as a child – sometimes reading and re-reading favorite stories, other times just gazing at the beautiful pictures and covers. I remember lovingly stroking the spines of the books while they were on my shelves as early as age six (yes, I’ve been that kind of bibliophile from Day One, it would seem).

These are the books that established The Snow Queen, The Wild Swans, and Rikki Tikki Tavi as some of my favorite stories.
